QJY88 / Type 88 5.8 mm GPMG / SAW / LMG

The QJY88 or Type 88 machine gun was originally developed by China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) as a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) to succeed the Type 67 GPMG.

Despite being originally developed to be a GPMG, the QJY88 in practice now fulfills the role of Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) / Light Machine Gun (LMG) in Chinese service. The QJY88 complements the lighter QBY88 with more sustained fire.

The gas-operated QJY88 can be operated by a single person or a crew of 2 and comes in two configurations:

• a light configuration fitted with a bipod
• the less common heavy configuration fitted with a tripod

The QJY88 is belt-fed or with 100 and 200 round box magazines. It also comes with a standard iron sight, but may also be fitted with an optional optical scope attached to the rail.
The QJY88 normally uses the 5.8x42 DBP88 or heavy round for increased range and penetration when compared to the standard 5.8x42 DBP87 round. It is to be replaced by the improved DBP10 round.

NORINCO M99 / M06 12.7 mm anti-materiel rifle

The M99 rifle used by the Chinese armed forces is an anti-materiel rifle developed by China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO). The domestic version uses 12.7 x 108 rounds. An export version that uses 12.7 x 99 also exists. A bull-pup variant of the rifle is referred to as the M06.

The rifle is fitted with an adjustable bipod, an adjustable rear monopod, and a buffered buttstock. Various types of optical and night vision capable telescopes can also be mounted on a rail.

Accuracy with standard rounds is advertized as:

• R50 < 50 mm at 100 m
• R50 < 120 mm at 300 m
• R50 < 200 mm at 600 m

Dedicated sniper rounds for increased accuracy in addition to the standard rounds are available.

The anti-materiel rifle is mostly meant to be used against enemy equipment and against personnel in a secondary role, a role which is better suited for conventional sniper rifles with much less recoil.

The rifle can be used at long range with high accuracy against targets such as unprotected and lightly armored vehicles, aircraft, small boats or unexploded ordnance.

Chinese QBZ03 / Type 03 automatic assault rifle

Unlike the bullpup QBZ95, the 5.8 mm QBZ03 or Type 03 assault rifle from China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) is of conventional design to succeed the 7.62 mm Type 81 and 5.8 mm Type 87 rifle.

The QBZ03 rifle has a two-piece receiver made mostly from stamped steel with the stock, pistol grip, and hand guards made of a polymer compound. A rail allows installation of various optics.

An export version of the rifle using 5.56 x 45 rounds is also available. In addition to semi-automatic and full automatic fire, this version includes a 3 round burst mode.

The QBZ03 rifle is used mostly by border guards, the People's Armed Police and sections of the military such as paratroopers.

Chinese QBU-88 / KBU-97 Designated Marksman / Sniper Rifle

Developed by China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO), the 5.8 mm QBU-88 or Type 88 rifle is used in China with both the military and police. The rifle is intended to be used as a designated marksman rifle and less as a true sniper rifle.

The semi-automatic QBU-88 uses the standard 5.8 x 42 round like the QBZ-95 rifle or specialized 5.8 mm rounds developed in China. An export version of the rifle using the 5.56 x 45 round is available as the KBU-97.

The QBU-88 design includes adjustable sights mounted on folding posts. The receiver has a proprietary military rail of Chinese origin, which can be used to install telescope or night sight mounts easily.

The rifle's muzzle signature is reduced by a long flash-suppressor. A quick-detachable bipod can be attached to the barrel if needed.
