Chinese carrier Liaoning sets outs to sea for training

The Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning, commissioned with pennant number 16, has again set out to sea to conduct further training. The Liaoning is the former Admiral Kuznetsov class aircraft carrier Varyag. Bought as an incomplete hull, she was refurbished and adapted for Chinese use.

She is expected to carry the J-15, which are derived from the J-11B fighter and SU-33 Naval Flanker. For self-defense, she carries the HHQ-10 missile-based Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) and the Type 1130 gun-based CIWS.
